B-CARP Program

Breast Cancer Active Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Program

The B-CARP Program is the first of its kind in Canada! This innovative program is designed to fill the gap between the treatment and recovery process for breast cancer patients.

Working with multidiciplinary partners in the health field and community, the B-CARP program is designed to provide physiotherapy and active educational therapy, along with any passive therapies necessary to assist in recovery. Physical activity has proven to help patients cope with treatment (physically and mentally) while boosting their immune system to fight a further recurrence of cancer.

The B-CARP purpose is to offer a supportive group or individual setting for patients who will work with a team of therapists to strive to return to an active daily life.

Whether a patient has just been diagnosed, or has fought and won the battle years ago, all breast cancer patients are encouraged to take part in this program. Patients work individually with a therapist, or in small groups with others at a similar stage of treatment or post-treatment. Sessions are run once or twice a week, depending on the patients' stamina and schedule. Progress is tracked and monitored by our team of therapists.

We are here to help the ladies feel great again and take back control of their lives!

Initial assessment - 40 mins. -  $60
The initial assessment is performed by one of our female physiotherapists. With patient input, it will be determined whether an individual or group program would be best. Goals and needs are decided as well as a treatment schedule. A baseline range of motion and fitness level are defined during this first visit.

Subsequent Visits
Individual sessions - 1 hour -  $55 per session.
Group programs - 1 1/2 hours -  $50 per session.
Group programs typically run for 6 or 12 consecutive weeks.
All sessions are carried out at The Apollo Clinic and, when neccessary, at the Apollo Gym, which is upstairs from our clinic. Although active education on exercise is the main focus of this program and will be a part of every session, seminars in a variety of topics such as,  diet and nutrition, cancer treatment ramifications, fitness and cancer as well as psychology and cancer will also be made available throughout the program.
